Night Scented Stock

Out of stock

An old-time favorite with a glorious aroma! Night Scented Stock (Matthiola longipetala) blooms in the late afternoon and evening releasing one of the sweetest scents in nature. Small aromatic flowers — in shades of pink, purple and white — grow on hardy 12- to 18-inch tall plants. Use in beds and borders near the house so their intoxicating fragrance can be enjoyed. Grows well in hanging baskets and pots too! (Annual)

Each packet contains approximately 500 seeds.

Planting and Growing Tips:
Native to Spain and Portugal, this easy to grow evening bloomer thrives in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Sow indoors under lights 6- to 8-weeks before the last frost date of spring or direct sow outdoors — just below the surface — after temperatures have warmed. Thin seedlings 8- to 12-inches apart and mulch to prevent weeds, keep soil temperatures cool and conserve moisture.

Once established, plants are easy to grow and will do well in many conditions. Deadhead or pinch off faded blossoms to extend the blooming period. After a killing frost, remove plants and add to the compost pile.
