Attractive to butterflies and other pollinators! Pincushion Flower (Scabiosa atropurpurea) has a long bloom period and yields sweetly scented, 1- to 2-inch blossoms of white, blue, maroon and red. Perfect for containers, borders, rock gardens and as a long-lasting cut flower. Compact plants — 24- to 30-inches tall — benefit from some shade, especially in the South. (Annual)
Each packet contains approximately 250 seeds.
Planting and Growing Tips:
These attractive summer bloomers are not fussy and tolerate most growing conditions providing they receive plenty of sun. Easy to grow, just broadcast and gently rake or tamp to a depth of 1/8 inch deep — barely cover! Thin seedlings 8- to 12-inches apart and mulch to prevent weeds, improve aesthetics and conserve moisture.
Deadhead or pinch off faded flowers — or use them as cuttings in flower arrangements — to promote additional blooms. After a killing frost, remove plants and add to the compost pile.
