No guessing when these short-season gems are at their peak. The rind of the Golden Midget Watermelon turns yellow when ripe! These 3-pound fruits have a salmon-colored, sweet interior. Ready in 70 days.
Each packet contains approximately 25 seeds.
Planting and Harvesting Tips:
Choose a planting site with full sun, well-drained soil and good air circulation. A gentle, south-facing slope is ideal. Sow 1/2 inch deep after the last frost and temperatures are warm. Space plants 12-inches apart, in rows 6-feet apart. Small bush varieties may be spaced 3-feet apart. Keep soil moist at all times.
Fruits are ready to harvest when stems turn from green to brown and begin to dry. In addition, look for the underside — where the fruit rests on the ground — to turn from a greenish white to yellow or cream colored. Cut from vines with at least one inch of stem attached.
