Onion, Ailsa Craig
Introduced in 1887 by David Murray, gardener for the Marquis of Ailsa. Named after a small island off the west coast of Scotland that is round and solid rock. A cross between Danver's Yellow and Cranston's Excelsior, described as "Handsome, globe-shaped variety; large, solid, with small neck; straw color. An exhibition variety." Heirloom onion averages 2 pounds, excellent keeper. (100 days from transplant)
