Fungus Gnat Predators (Hypoaspis aculeifer) actively search for fungus gnat larvae and other harmful soil insects to attack after release. The predators come as 10,000 mites of all stages in vermiculite and peat. The adult predators pierce the larvae and feed on their contents. The adults are small, up to 1 mm long. The larvae and first nymphal stage are white. The mites can be observed in and on the soil and at the base of plant stems. They are seldom seen on the plants, and a slow but steady reduction of the infestation will take place.
Apply Fungus Gnat Predators to the soil surface, never the plants. The soil should be moist but not too wet, preferable rich in organic matter, with an open structure and minimum temperature of 59 F. The predators can be stored for 1 - 2 days after receipt at 50 - 59 F, horizontally placed and in the dark. To apply, turn and shake the bottle gently before use. Spread the material evenly on the soil or hydroponic medium surface. Do not apply near the plant stem.
A shaker bottle of 10,000 predators (Entomite-M) will treat up to 1,000 square feet, depending on pest infestation. As part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program consider using with Beneficial Nematodes.
