A legendary heirloom variety rediscovered in Macon, Missouri. This watermelon can grow over 40 lbs. and has a deep, dark green rind with bright yellow spots on it! Spots range in size from tiny to several inches across. Leaves are also specked in yellow.
With a sweet and juicy, red flesh and a delicious taste, it’s no wonder that Moon & Stars is fast becoming one of our most popular heirloom varieties. It’s a winner! (95 days)
Planting Instructions:
Sow seed 1/2 inch deep outdoors after last frost and soil is warm. Soil should be rich and well amended with compost or manure. Plant 12-inches apart, in rows 6-feet apart. Can also be started indoors, but no more than 2 to 3 weeks prior to transplant date. Do NOT let watermelon seedlings become root-bound.
Grower’s Tip:
Watermelon is ripe when the light patch on the underside has changed to pale yellow, and the tendril immediately opposite the stem from the fruit is withered.
