Ali Baba watermelons have hard, light-green rinds that are perfect for shipping and storage. Plants are large and provide heavy yields of oblong fruit which do well in most conditions. The flavor is superb, being very sweet and luscious; and the texture is crisp — not mushy. Ali Baba has been called “the best tasting watermelon,” and we think you’ll agree. (95 days)
Sow seed 1/2 inch deep outdoors after last frost and soil is warm. Soil should be rich and well amended with compost or manure. Plant 12-inches apart, in rows 6-feet apart. Can also be started indoors, but no more than 2 to 3 weeks prior to transplant date. Do NOT let watermelon seedlings become root-bound.
Watermelon is ripe when the light patch on the underside has changed to pale yellow, and the tendril immediately opposite the stem from the fruit is withered.
