Planting and Harvesting Tips:
A fast growing cool weather crop that thrives in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Direct sow spring crops 4-6 weeks before the last frost date. Fall crops should be started indoors 6-8 weeks before the first frost. Plant 1/4 inch deep, allowing one foot spacing between plants and two feet between rows.
Harvest stems when they are young and tender, usually 2-3 inches in diameter. Use a sharp knife to cut from the base of the plant about one inch below the swollen stem. Plants will keep 2-3 weeks in the fridge.
