All of our natural herbicides will kill whatever you spray them on. Keep in mind that this includes grasses — they are NOT specific to weeds — so you will need to spot treat as best you can.
Hope this helps!

KeymasterHey Anthony!
The soil in your yard is organic, as long as it hasn’t been treated with any artificial pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers or other non-natural products in the past three years. If you would like, you could add a little bit of nitrogen or spread a natural lawn fertilizer down before placing the sod. We would recommend Bio-Turf for your needs, an OMRI listed fertilizer formulated for sod and lawns.
Find it here: https://www.planetnatural.com/product/bio-turf-lawn-fertilizer/I would recommend using either Roots Organics Potting soil or Ocean Forest Soil. Both are very “hot” and come with soil amendments (such as worm castings) already mixed into the product. I would advise against adding any additional amendments to prevent burning your plants with too much fertilizer. Find them here! https://www.planetnatural.com/product/roots-organic-soil/

KeymasterAhmed –
We have a couple of articles on using human waste or “biosolids” in compost…but do not recommend it. The concern is that everything that gets flushed — human and animal feces, industrial chemicals, medical waste, oil products, pesticides, home cleaners — ends up in your compost! Sure, compost may be heat-treated to kill some of the pathogens. But heat treating doesn’t kill them all. And how do you know your compost was treated in the first place? Here’s the link:
https://www.planetnatural.com/compost-sewage/
Hope it helps!

Yes, I don’t see why you couldn’t mix these two mineral-based amendments together for a more complete product. However, I recommend not exceeding the recommended amount per square foot. The following is from the Azomite website:
Azomite is very different from the few glacial rock dust products on the market. AZOMITE is a mineralized, compacted volcanic ash in origin and is volcanic rather than glacial.
Happy gardening!

I recommend knocking them down with a short-lived natural pesticide — one that will not harm flowers — and then releasing predatory mites. You will need to increase the recommended release numbers as your predators will need to to stay ahead of the reproductive rate of the pest. In other words, they will need to eat more than is being produced to establish control. Here’s a few recommendations.

KeymasterHi Al –
Earth Juice coco coir looks to be heat sterilized, it does not mention if it has been rinsed or composted. The Earth Juice website does mention that it has “the lowest EC salt index” which I would assume means it has been rinsed for salts.
I would highly recommend the Roots Organics Coco Fiber if you can get your hands on it. Unfortunately Roots will be out of fiber until at least the end of April. I would suggest using Canna Coco Coir as a replacement for the Roots Coco Fibers. Find it here…

KeymasterHi Anne –
For our retail plants we use one big bag of Roots Organic Potting Soil mixed with one bag of Black Gold Washed Sand. We then added cedar chips to a level that amounts to about 1/3rd of the total growing media (about 18 qts total).
• 38qts Roots Organics Potting Soil
• 2qts Washed Sand
• 15-20qts Cedar Chips.Cedar chips may be found at your local mulch or landscape store. Find the other products here!

KeymasterHi Lena –
Carpet beetles can be some of the most difficult pest to eradicate due to their ability to disperse widely and their success at finding food almost anywhere. Cleaning and sanitation are key to keeping infestations under control. Eliminate any deposits of hair, lint, dead insects or other debris that the beetles love to feast on. Remove badly infested items from your household. Remove any bird, spider, bee, rodent or wasp nest which can provide sanctuary for infestations. Regular and thorough vacuum will remove all life cycle stages of the pest. Make sure to dispose of bag promptly after vacuuming to prevent further infestations.
You can check out our guide on how to get rid of carpet beetles here: https://www.planetnatural.com/carpet-beetle/
Unfortunately, from my research there are no organic insecticides that specify that they will take care of carpet beetle larvae. Boric acid is very low in toxicity and recommended by multiple sources.

Cypermethrin is a type of pyrethroid pesticide. You could use a pyrtherin based pesticide for a similar effect. Find it here: https://www.planetnatural.com/product/pyganic-ec-1-4-pyrethrum/ and here: https://www.planetnatural.com/product/pyrethrin-spray/
It should be noted that cypermethrin is longer lasting than the average pyretherin pesticide. This product may have to be reapplied more frequently to achieve the same result.
Good Luck!

KeymasterHi Barbara –
It depends on if you are using a copper concentrate spray or a “ready to use” variety (RTU). I would be more concerned about burning plants if you are using the concentrate, especially if there are citrus trees in your orchard. I would refrain from applying neem for at least 24 hours after liquid copper application, and would highly recommend using the RTU spray. Find exactly what you’re looking for here:

KeymasterHi Fotini –
Aloe like well drained sandy soils, I can see why you may be having trouble with a seed starter mix! I would recommend Black Gold Cactus mix or adding some Washed Sand to the soil you have now at a ratio of 1:1. Both can be found here!
https://www.planetnatural.com/product/sand/
https://www.planetnatural.com/product/cactus-mix/
Keep in mind that with Aloe plants less water is more. Make sure the soil has completely dried out before watering again. Stick your finger in the dirt up to your second knuckle of you’re unsure. If you feel any moisture, refrain from watering!
Good Luck!

Yes! It is actually recommended by the label to spray at seeding, transplant, or potting stage for the best results. One cup of solution will treat one six inch pot.
Happy Spring!

KeymasterHey Scott!
I would consider adding Bokashi to the pile to help increase the decomposition rate. Increasing the temperature and moisture a tad should help as well. In order to turn your compost pile into a wormery you would need to create waste “layers” separate by plastic frames or bins. The bottom “layer” should be a catchment to save the “tea” the worms produce.

KeymasterHey Sarah!
I would recommend a herbicide that specifically targets grass species, or monocots. If you’d still like to use the Scythe, it’s likely that misting the tall grass will likely help your problem. It should be noted that reapplication will likely be necessary in order to completely eradicate that fescue.
Good Luck!

KeymasterHi Jim –
Depends upon the shrub! Some plants don’t mind root disturbance, whilst others may not necessarily enjoy the ride, and others may be stunted. Are you asking about grow bags (Black plastic trash-bag like material) or smart pots (fabric pots)? I would be more concerned about a grow bag ripping or tearing. Smart pots should hold up relatively well and will be a bit more tear resistant. If you do have to move your plants, minimal impact should be used, I would highly recommend investing in some plant rollers!

Our kidswork gloves do not contain any sort of cancer warning on the label. Based upon what I’ve found on the company website, they contain nylon and latex. Other chemicals they may contain are not specified. I’ve got a call out to the company and am waiting to hear back, but from my research they seem ay-okay!

It sounds like you may be diluting the product twice? I would suggest using solely Take Down Garden Spray in the solution reservoir. I would keep your dial set at the 2oz per gallon to achieve the recommended two percent solution ratio. Here’s a link to their product label and instructions.

I would highly suggest keeping the amount of product to the recommended ratio, no matter the size of the tree. For best results I would recommend adding the Pro-teKt to a scheduled feeding regime to avoid excessive stressing or nutrient burning of your tree. The label has recommended rates that vary slightly depending on your selected method of application.
Hope this helps!

Watch the young grasshoppers closely. Many growers have commented that the nymphs “just disappeared” the following year after application of Semaspore Bait — the infection does carry over from year to year in the egg pods. Another approach, especially when infestations are high, is to make smaller, more frequent applications of the bait. It’s a numbers game… the more you can get to eat the bait the better your results will be.
Applications made to younger grasshoppers will result in increased mortality with less carry-over to future hatches. Applications to older grasshoppers will result in less mortality but a greater carry-over into the next season. We recommend applications be made when grasshoppers are in their 3rd instar — about 1/4 in. long — to maximize both reduced numbers (50%) and spread of the infection to additional hatches.

If you are looking for something 100% organic I would stay away from Miracle Gro. It is often quite salt-heavy and may burn plants if applied at improper amounts. I would highly recommend the Happy Frog All Purpose Fertilizer for the best results. It does contain fish based products, however the smell is not as pungent as liquid fish emulsion due to the fact is it in a solid (granular) form. If you absolutely cannot do any fish, I would recommend “Down to Earth” vegan fertilizer mix. Both can be found here!

KeymasterHello Isaiah!
It is recommended to use a well drained soil mixture that does not contain any sort of fertilizer or wetting agents. If you would like to mix a soil substrate yourself I would recommend a mixture of 10-30 percent clay, 10-40 percent silt and 30-60 percent sand. This image should give you a little bit better idea of ratios. http://www.oneplan.org/Images/soilMst/SoilTriangle.gif
I would suggest a ratio similar to Sandy Clay Loam, Medium Loam or Sandy Loam to fit your needs best. Once you’ve got your soil mixture, I would suggest adding cedar chips or other hardwood shavings. These wood shavings should account for about 1/3rd of your growing medium. If you would like to purchase a soil I would recommend Roots Original Potting soil with Black Gold Sand and cedar chips added to the mix. Both can be found here!https://www.planetnatural.com/product/roots-organic-soil/
https://www.planetnatural.com/product/sand/Watering timing and amounts will depend heavily upon the environment, pot size and how big your tree is. Citrus do not like to stay wet, the best way to figure out when to water would be to check by hand. This can be done by sticking your finger in the soil up to the second knuckle. If you feel any moisture I would refrain from watering until the soil is nearly bone dry. A wilting tree often means too little water, whereas yellowing or folded leaves may indicate too much water. It should be noted that at higher latitudes citrus plants will often go dormant in the winter and may often drop leaves or stop growing entirely for a month or two. Do not fret if this happens! Patience and consistency are key to a happy citrus plant.
Hope this helps!
Eric Vinje
KeymasterHey Brandon!
Traditionally, aquaponic systems are recirculating; I am not sure how you would accomplish this by using those mediums. This aside, aquaponics nutrients are derived from fish waste. This means ideally, you shouldn’t have to add any nutrients for your plants. However, if you find your plants are lagging you may add some liquid kelp fertilizer. This should be safe for your fish while still feeding your plants.
Hope this helps!
Eric Vinje
KeymasterHi Georgette!
Check out our handy dandy shipping chart to see when our beneficial insects would ship to you!
https://www.planetnatural.com/shipping-beneficial-insects/
Your release date is gonna depend upon the pests life cycle you are trying to impact, your economic(or aesthetic) threshold level and what kind of weather you folks receive this spring. Monitor pest populations closely and release your predators when you feel you have reached a point where taking action outweighs the problem.
We’ve got a couple pages of info on some of the pests you have been having trouble with. These pages may give some clues as to weak points in the pest life cycle as well as recommendations for projects you can accomplish now to help prevent infestations in the future. Check it out here! https://www.planetnatural.com/pest-problem-solver/garden-pests/
Hope this helps! Best of luck!

KeymasterHi Jeanne –
It depends on the mold or mycelium! Some may actually encourage germination. The only way to know would be to plant them and see what happens.
Best of luck!
