Henry – Are you sure that it is an insect causing the problem? It sounds to me like a plant disease, especially since you notice the problem during damp conditions. Check out this site by Pennsylvania State University:

Which organic spray are you talking about? We've been using Semaspore Bait for years with great results. It really seems to keep the grasshopper numbers down.

Typically, your garden store variety ladybug (Hippodamia convergens), which is native to North America, will not become a problem indoors. However, the Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle (Harmonia axyridis), which of course is native to Asia, can be a seasonal nuisance in homes. The USDA has a very good fact sheet on the little buggers.

TL, Most healthy roses will seal their own wounds within a half hour. However, if you have a borer problem you can seal them with a pruning paste (available at many garden stores). I have also used Elmer's glue, which works very well and dries clear.

I think that you're alright… Remember that beneficial insects only feed on pest insects. They do not eat plants. In most cases, once the pests are gone so are the beneficials – they either starve to death or have to leave in search of more food.
