I just planted 16 fruit trees – 6 apple, 4 peach, 3 pear and 3 plum. Also, 9 blueberry and 7 grapevines. I don’t see any pest or disease problems yet. I’m bewildered by all your different products. Can you suggest some good organic preventative products I can use now and throughout the season?

    Thanks,
    Tom Duffy

    Hi Tom –

What can you do to prevent pest problems down the road? Lotโ€™s. Discouraging orchard pests by knowing the conditions they favor, say lots of moisture, and then denying them is a start. Veteran growers know what pests to expect in their area on the specific trees they plant. If youโ€™re new to fruit trees, you might want to take a look at the following page for a list of common orchard and tree pests complete with pictures and earth-friendly remedies.

With that said, some of the first-line defenses of organic garden and IPM programs for orchards, things like Tanglefoot Pest Barrier, Orchard Spray, Insecticidal Soap, and Kaolin Clay, should be in every gardenerโ€™s shed.

    Good luck!
