  • Wood for Raised Garden Beds

    Created by Karen on

Hi, I am planning on making a raised container ORGANIC vegetable garden. I have organic plants and soil and was going plant in recycled wood crates. But I just started reading that there may be issues with the wood if it’s been treated–I have no way of knowing. Is there something that I can use to line the crates with? I don’t want chemicals to leach into the soil and plants. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karen

    Karen –

I don’t feel comfortable with any of the “liners” that are out there. I suggest using redwood or cedar to build your frames and have included a couple of links that should help.

    Hope it helps!

Thank you very much. I already have the crates so it’s a bit tricky. I just ready the entire article–you mention using weed cloth, would that help?

Or maybe just going with the wood as it is would be best. I guess I don’t know if the line or the wood would be worse. As I mentioned, I’m not even sure it’s treated or not.

Una idea genial. Yo también probaré con el cedro en un pequeño huerto para mi cocina
