Hi, I have an outbreak of maggots in my compost bin. Is this good or bad? Should I do anything? I read about buying a compost desiccant. If so, can you recommend one?

    Thanks, Lauren

    Lauren –

Some fly species lay eggs on decomposing plant material. Try adding a layer of hay to the pile and cover with screening. Iโ€™ve also heard that a 2 inch layer of sandy soil spread over the surface will work. Read more about effective fly control here (https://www.planetnatural.com/pest-problem-solver/household-pests/fly-control/).

    Hope this helps!
