Carrot, St Valery

Also known as James Scarlet, Saint Valery Carrot (Daucus carota) is a large, 10- to 12-inch long heirloom with bright red-orange roots that are crunchy, and oh-so-sweet! Easy to grow and chock-full of nutrition. (65-70 days)

Each packet contains approximately 800 seeds.

Planting and Harvesting Tips:
Crops may be sown throughout spring and summer months at 2 to 3 week intervals, until about 1 month before first frost in fall. Sow thickly in rows 1 foot apart or broadcast in 1 to 1-1/2 inch wide raised beds. When tops are 1 to 2 inches tall thin plants to 2 inches apart.

Harvest at finger size for best texture and flavor. Watering prior to harvest makes pulling easier. Extend storage life by cutting off all but 1 inch of the leaves and stem. Do NOT store near apples or pears. These fruits produce a gas that will cause them to become bitter.
