Insecticidal soap works via dehydration and is short lived in the environment. However, it is not specific to aphids. If you could spot treat the aphid colonies, rather than blanket spraying, you would minimize any damage to the monarch butterflies, larvae and eggs. In fact, once insecticidal soap dries it is no longer effective. I’ve included a link to our Aphid Control page.
