THE ROLYPIG COMPOSTER - HOW IT WORKS
Feed Me, Roll Me, and Straighten my Snout. |
Kitchen waste and garden waste are fed into the Rolypig's mouth and drop into the first compartment. It's good to balance the pH inside Rolypig by adding occasional grass clippings and shredded leaves.
Keep feeding Rolypig until the first compartment is full. For a family of four this will take about three weeks. The first compartment is full when waste no longer slides easily down the chute inside Rolypig's snout. To make room for more organic material, roll the Rolypig in the direction of the arrows clearly marked on the front. Roll Rolypig a little past the second flat side and then back so it comes to rest on the second side. The result of the rolling is that material added earlier will now be in the next section. The first section will be empty and ready to take in more organic materials.
It is only necessary to move Rolypig to make room for new waste to be added (for best results, roll just past the second flat surface and back so that it rests on the second flat surface). |
| Here's what it looks like: |
 |
1. Feed the Rolypig with kitchen waste; just lift his snout and drop it in.
2. When the first compartment is full (3 weeks), roll the Rolypig over onto two more of his 10 sides in the direction of the arrows. (For best results, it may be necessary to roll slightly beyond this point to displace the material within.)
3. Adjust Rolypig's head to the upright position.
4. Leave until feeding time or when he needs to be moved. Our Rolypig lives in one of our mulched garden beds. If Rolypig lives on your lawn, you'll want to slide Rolypig every few days to care for your lawn.
5. After 12-15 weeks and all compartments are full, remove the collection container (rear bucket). The rear bucket must be in the upright position to remove compost.
6. If the compost in the rear bucket is what you want, use as desired. If you would like your compost to mature further, feed it to Rolypig again. |
| Roll and Adjust the head, or hold the head as you roll. |
 |
| Other points to note: |
| The Rolypig can be operated on the lawn or mulched garden bed. Rolypig should not be used on an abrasive surface such as a driveway. |
