Predatory Mite Release Instructions
Predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis) are strictly predators of most plant feeding mites and do not bite people, feed on other insects or injure plants. Once released, they will immediately begin searching for food on the underside of leaves where spider mites are most abundant. As the predators run out of food, they simply starve to death themselves.
When you receive this package, take care to keep it in a cool place. Release predatory mites as soon as possible. Do not release during the hot part of the day, but rather wait until evening. If immediate release is inconvenient, you may store the predators in the refrigerator but not for more than 24 hours. DO NOT FREEZE.
Predatory mites are shipped in corn cob grit or vermiculite to give them some bulk. Extra predators are sent to compensate for mortality during shipment. To release, gently tumble the container to mix the contents and shake the predators out close to mite infestations. Predatory mites breed twice as fast as spider mites, so you should notice a gradual increase in their population. Release 2,000 predatory mites per 700 sq. ft. or 20-30 per medium sized plant. Heavy infestations may require a second release.
