Establishing the correct size of your pond from the very beginning is extremely important when implementing pond management practices. Pond size can be calculated using one of the following formulas.
Round or Kidney-Shaped Ponds
• Diameter x Diameter x Average Depth x 5.875 = Gallons (All measurements should be in feet.)
For example, if your pond measured 17 feet in diameter with a depth of 2-1/2 feet you would have approximately 4,245 gallons.
Other Pond Shapes
• Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.4805 = Gallons (All measurements should be in feet.)
For example, if your pond measured 15' x 24' x 3' deep you would have approximately 8,079 gallons.
