Milorganite Application Rates:
Lawn Care
When you get right down to it, everybody wants the same thing from their lawn - a lush green carpet that's easy to take care of. And it all starts with a fertilizer that's easy to apply. Easy in a non-burning, non-striping, non-staining, no-need-to-water-in kind of way. To find out how easy it is to apply Milorganite on lawns simply follow directions for your specific region.
| Cool-Season (Northern) Grasses: |
| Spring: |
Apply one 40 lb. bag per 2,500 sq. ft. |
| Summer: |
Apply one 40 lb. bag per 2,500 sq. ft. |
| Fall: |
Apply one 40 lb. bag per 2,500 sq. ft. |
Use a late-season application of Milorganite on northern grasses for an earlier spring green-up. Apply 40 lbs. to cover 1,500 sq. ft. just before a permanent snow cover appears imminent.
| Warm-Season (Southern) Grasses: |
| Spring: |
Apply one 40-lb bag per 2,500 sq. ft. after turf breaks dormancy. |
| Early Summer: |
Apply one 40-lb bag per 2,500 sq. ft. |
| Late Summer: |
Apply one 40-lb bag per 2,500 sq. ft. |
| Fall: |
Apply one 40-lb bag per 2,500 sq. ft. in the fall or when overseeding with cool-season grasses. |
*Avoid nitrogen applications to warm-season grasses in the fall less than one month prior to the average first killing frost date in your area, unless overseeding with cool-season grasses. Centipede grass and bluegrass prefer spring and summer feedings. Avoid late fall fertilization of these species to limit possible winter kill.
New Lawns
Seed Bed and Sodding Preparation: Apply two 40 lb. bags per 2,500 sq. ft. of planting area and mix Milorganite in the top two inches of soil before seeding or sodding.
Follow-up Application: After the third mowing of the newly seeded or sodded lawn, apply one 40 lb. bag per 2,500 sq. ft. of lawn. Then follow the schedule for your particular type of grass.
Proper mowing is essential for a healthy lawn. So are these handy tips:
• Keep your mower sharp.
• Cut when grass is dry.
• Set mower to correct cutting height (2 1/2 to 3 inches).
• Mow often enough so you never remove more than one-third of the lawn height each time.
