MAXICROP LIQUID SEAWEED
Preventing Plant Stresses
Improved plant health... That's what you can achieve through planned use of Maxicrop seaweed extracts. Applied - little and often - as part of our plant health programmes - these bio-stimulants ensure plants are more adept at resisting growing stresses.
Independent Research - funded by Maxicrop International - shows that our products have five principle effects on plant growth.
All of them remove or reduce the influence of a number of growth constraints, with the result that treated plants function better and produce higher yields and better quality crops.
Chlorophyll
Foliar application of our seaweed extract will result in greater maintenance of chlorophyll, leading to greener plants. This is, in part, due to a complex family of different betaines in the seaweed extract, which help reduce natural damage to the photosynthetic process.
Microbes
Specific carbohydrates in our seaweed extracts serve as a source of food for beneficial and benign soil bacteria, resulting in a large increase in microbe numbers. These microbes produce plant growth stimulating compounds that encourage root growth and a significantly larger root mass. The increased bacterial population can also both physically exclude or compete with potential plant pathogenic soil fungi.
Immune System
Regular applications of the foliage of plants induces Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR) against a range of fungi, bacteria and viruses; there are indications that this effect may also be systemic. Applications also improve the plant's ability to withstand certain levels of environmental stresses and may reduce the attacks and flare-ups of sap-sucking insect pests on the plants.
Frost
Applied to plants that can acclimatize, seaweed extract initiates or speeds up the acclimatization process even when the plant is not subjected to a cold stress. This allows plants to tolerate greater levels of cold, reducing the amount of damage.
Nematodes
The complex range of compounds found within our seaweed extracts can help reduce nematode damage. This includes a reduction in hatch and a disorientation or simple "burn-out" of immature nematodes (J-2s), minimizing root penetration.
Applying Maxicrop - Little & Often
The little & often application approach keeps the plants and, where possible, immediate soil environment "topped-up" with all the beneficial components of our seaweed extracts.
This helps ensure that a suppressive soil is built up around the plants' roots. It also strengthens the natural resistance mechanisms of the plants themselves, thereby leading to improved plant health and productivity. Research has shown that plants that are regularly exposed to low levels of our seaweed extracts establish bigger and deeper roots and are faster growing
They also develop bigger and greener shoots that are more resistant to stresses from pests, diseases and adverse weather conditions, thus allowing the plants to realize more of their yield and quality potential.
Soil & Leaf
To achieve faster crop establishment our seaweed extracts must be applied to the soil around the roots. Hydroponics, or drenching roots every week via a fertigation or some such other system, provides excellent results.
Once plants are well established, regular weekly applications of the foliage should commence. These will improve the plant's natural resistance mechanisms making them better able to fight off foliar diseases, sap-sucking insect attacks and to combat the negative effects of adverse weather.
Applications to the foliage and roots will also enable plants to protect and maintain their photosynthetic apparatus during periods of stress allowing for better light utilization and greater energy for growth and productivity.
