HOW EARTHMAKER WORKS

EarthMaker Aerobic ComposterEarthmaker is a three chamber bin that allows a constant input of organic material in the top chamber and provides a continuous source of compost from the bottom. This novel concept makes it possible to process significantly greater quantities of kitchen and garden waste at faster rates than ordinary single chamber composters. The ingenious design features a removable floor to the top chamber that allows material to be moved from the top to the middle chamber without effort. Material is mixed and aerated in the process.

After your Earthmaker has been assembled the top chamber can be filled with food scraps and garden waste. The mixture will heat up and compact down over a few days. Kitchen waste can continue to be added on a daily basis and garden waste whenever the lawns are mowed or the garden is weeded.

Then, every month or so, the pull-out panel in the floor of the top chamber is removed allowing the material to tumble into the middle chamber. After the panel has been replaced, the top chamber continues to be filled as before. Over the next few weeks the material in the middle chamber will gradually decompose further and begin to spill down the sloping shelf into the bottom chamber. Before emptying the top chamber again, it is necessary to check that the middle chamber is clear. Use the tool provided to push the mulch into the bottom chamber, if needed.

After a month, the compost in the lowest chamber should have reached a suitable maturation point to enable it to be removed and used in the garden.

Earthmaker requires very little attention. Once a month the contents can be quickly moved down from chamber to chamber. It will take a minimum of 12 weeks before mature compost can be removed from the Earthmaker, depending on the season and the climate, but once established the continuous cycle process enables an Earthmaker to provide 10 + gallons of excellent compost every month.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Adding Organic Material Mixing Materials
1) Food and garden waste is added to the top chamber. A varied diet, well chopped and stirred, works best. 2) Material in the top chamber can be gently mixed, folded and stirred using the push-pull tool.
Top to Middle Chambers Middle to Bottom Chambers
3) When moving material down from the top chamber (about once a month) the pull-out tray is easily removed to allow material to pass through to the middle chamber. 4) Material in the middle chamber spills down to the bottom as material from the top is pushed down. A hole above the door allows access for the push-pull tool.
Gathering Compost Lid and Door
5) Material in the bottom chamber is pulled forward so that the compost can be accessed through the generous door opening. 6) The rotating lid and the push-on door are easy to use for all ages. The push-pull tool is conveniently stored on the Earthmaker.
