Sweet Pea, Azureus
(L. sativus) Hundreds of beautiful electric-blue blossoms. Azureus Sweet Pea are commonly grown in China and India as a grazing crop for animals, where over 4 million acres are in cultivation. It is toxic, like all other sweet peas, but researchers are working to develop strains that will be edible for humans in drought-stricken countries. Rarely offered. Does well even in the heat of summer. Plants are low-growing, 1-2' tall. (Annual)
