Baker Creek Heirloom SeedsFlattened and ribbed large fruits are a gorgeous deep red-orange color. A very old french heirloom, this was the most common pumpkin (C. maxima) in the Central Market in Paris back in the 1880s. The flesh is tasty in pies or baked. This variety can also be picked small, like summer squash, and fried. It is a good yielder too. 95 days.

Planting Instructions:
Grow pumpkins and winter squash in very rich soil, amended with manure, compost or other rich source of plant nutrients. Plant in rows, 5 to 8 feet in both directions, sowing one seed for every 6 to 12 inches. May also plant in hills, 5 seeds per hill, with the hills 6 to 8 feet apart, thinning to three plants.

Full sun, ample moisture and insect control when necessary should allow good production from these vigorous plants. Harvest in autumn when skins are too tough to be easily punctured with a thumbnail.
