 Composting is an essential element in sustainable development because it reduces the amount of garbage sent to landfill sites. The Blue Planet Smart Compost Bin can cut the volume of a household garbage bag by more than a third, while also producing a high-quality fertilizer for vegetable and flower gardens, lawns and houseplants.
This globe shaped rotating composter has a surface/volume ratio that is smaller than any other shape. The smaller the ratio, the less the impact of heat loss on the total heat generated and the faster the decomposition. As well, the spherical form makes for a more aesthetic and ecological design.
Four paddles built into the inside of the Blue Planet Smart Composter (see transparent view) make it easier to mix old and new material, wet and dry matter. They also facilitate aeration, which speeds up decomposition. The paddles form handles on the outside of the bin, for easier moving and rotating.
The tumbler's large opening makes it easy to fill and empty the composter, while the door helps control the level of moisture in warm weather and keeps rain from washing out nutrients.
The composter base makes it possible to collect up to 4.4 imperial gallons, of the compost liquid runoff, a terrific source of soil nutrients. To that end, a scale (in liters and gallons) has been integrated into the base. A manual pump (included) simplifies the transfer of the compost leachate to a watering can.
The rotating system, which enables the material to be regularly turned over, is a faster and easier way of producing compost. Tumbling improves mixing, aeration and moisture. It keeps the compost moist by preventing direct heat and dehydrating air from slowing down the decomposition process. The system is made up of six wheels and six axles.
