Baker Creek Heirloom SeedsBanana-shaped melon has smooth yellow skin and sweet, spicy salmon flesh. Grows to 16" to 24" long, 5 to 10 lbs. It was listed in 1885 by J. H. Gregory's Catalog, which said "When ripe it reminds one of a large, overgrown banana... It smells like one, having a remarkably powerful and delicious fragrance." This is one of our all-time favorites, being very sweet and rich tasting. 90 days.

Planting Instructions:
Melons need fertile soil and abundant heat to reach perfection. Sow in place about two weeks after last frost. Plant seed about one inch deep, 12 inches apart, in rows 5 feet apart. May also plant in hills, 4 to 5 seeds per hill, with hills about 5 feet apart.

In short-season climates, grow transplants indoors, starting 1 week before last frost date and set out about 2 to 3 weeks after sowing; never let transplants become root-bound in their container.
