The Vilmorins of France mentioned this carrot variety in 1885 and said it had been grown “a long time” then. A large (10 to 12-inch long) heirloom variety with bright red-orange roots that are sweet and tender. (65-70 days)
Planting Instructions:
Early sowings can be made 2 to 3 weeks before spring’s last frost date. The tiny seeds should be surface-sown and not covered, or covered only minimally and kept uniformly moist until seedlings are strong.
May be sown throughout spring and summer months at 2 to 3 week intervals, until about 1 month before first frost in autumn. Deep, well worked soil is best for long type carrots; half longs and round types prefer heavy soil.
